Claude Monet

Claude Monet 1840 - 1926 (see self portrait on left) was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature.

The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise.

Monet was a student and follower of many types of Art and was a great admirer of Hals and travelled to the Netherlands to visit and research Hals works.
